The Bilateral Relations team at the British Embassy in Rome is seeking an intern for a period
of six months starting in September 2026 (please note that the start date may be delayed
should security checks take longer than originally expected). This is a curricular
internship/tirocinio curricolare, the selected candidate will be equipped with a laptop
provided by us, but on occasion may be asked to perform from a personal device. She/he will
be required to be present in the office, near Porta Pia, in Rome.
The United Kingdom has historically had a close bilateral relationship with Italy, which the
Embassy is committed to building on and deepening, furthering ties by enhancing
relationships at regional level throughout Italy. The successful candidate will help the team
achieve this vision, within the Bilateral Relations team. In the forthcoming months, the Team
will be engaged in several major soft power events with senior stakeholders from the UK and
Italian governments. These will require the whole team’s involvement in overseeing logistics
and ensuring their smooth running and flawless delivery.
We are looking for a candidate who is a good communicator in English and Italian. Strong
analytical skills to absorb and summarise information, and organisational skills will be
important too, as well as creativity and resilience.
The candidate will be expected to assist the team in research on policy priorities, provide
support in arranging events, visits, meetings, and logistics, prepare briefs, and carry out
translations as required.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and logistics support for the delivery of programmes, conferences, meetings and events, with a particular focus on some of the Embassy’s flagship initiatives, the Pontignano Conference and the UK-Italy Young Leaders Programme;
- Maintain and update contact database;
- Provide support for senior officials’ programmes, e.g. arranging meetings, liaising with transport team; liaising with Italian and UK Ministries and stakeholders;
- Attend meetings and briefings and drafting follow-up reports/minutes;
- Take part in a wide range of embassy activities;
- Event management support;
- Assist on research on policy priorities.
Required experience and skills
- Fluent spoken and written English and Italian (C1 level of the CEFR or equivalent)
- Good IT skills;
- Good knowledge of current affairs;
- Enthusiasm and proactive approach to issues;
- Ability to analyse and summarise large volumes of information;
- Ability to perform under pressure and prioritise assigned tasks;
- Confidence in carrying out tasks independently while displaying strong teamwork skills.
Terms and conditions
The ‘tirocinio curricolare’ is intended for undergraduate students as part of their
education/studies or graduates still completing their education. The candidate will have to go
through a selection process by way of an oral interview.
The intern will be granted a number of credits (crediti formativi), as indicated by the
university. The internship is not a work contract and as such is not paid. However, the
Embassy will pay the intern a monthly allowance of €350 per month. This amount is not
subject to tax under current local legislation. The intern would be expected to be engaged for
an average of 24 hours per week, within the range of 09.00-4.00pm. Some degree of flexibility
is expected, mostly in case of seminars and evening events. Similar flexibility is ensured by
the whole section to accommodate the intern’s need in case of university exams or personal
commitments.
Other administrative details are set out in the university ‘progetto formativo’ to be signed
once appointed to the internship. Please note that, in accordance with Italian law, the
successful candidate will have to finish the 6-month internship before the graduation day.
