Read Lolita in Tehran at the theatre

Project funded by UNINT – Third Mission/Social Impact call (a.y. 2022/2023)
Project Manager: CIRCGE, UNINT Research Centre

Objectives

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the serious situation of violence against women and lack of respect for human rights of the Iranian regime and to urge the initiation of the necessary reforms to adopt policies and laws that give women equal rights in the public and private spheres, putting an end to the very serious form of gender discrimination (Goal 5 UN Agenda 2030; target 5.1; 5.2; 5c ).

The initiative aims to set up a pilot project capable of involving university and secondary school students and citizens through a creative activity that, through its strong emotional impact, will raise awareness on the issue of discrimination, inequality and gender-based violence in Iran, rasing national attention and support for women's struggle in the country. The students, in particular, will be involved in the viewing of the play and in an open debate, following the viewing, in the presence of experts in Iranian culture and politics and human rights more generally.

Actions

Organisation of a play counterpointed by an evocative visual journey, realised through video projections that help the spectator enter Islamic culture, especially in relation to the condition of women. Setting of the events is Tehran, traversed by shivers of death and glimpses of light.
The music refers to well-known Arab and Iranian melodies and is itself a sound itinerary that accompanies the events.
The stage design is by director Daniele Salvo with Melania Giglio, Selene Gandini and Francesca Mària.

Impact
