Objectives

The initiative is part of  public engagement activities oforganised on a nonprofit basis with cultural and social development value and aimed at a non-academic audience. Specifically, it falls within the orientation and interaction initiatives with  high schools and information initiatives aimed at children and young people.
The exhibition "Alle origini delle lingue. Le prime testimonianze scritte” aims to document the history of the languages ​​taught in the Faculty of Interpreting and Translation (ArabicChineseFrenchJapaneseEnglishItalianPortugueseRussoSpanish and  e German) by describing the first documents that are considered evidence of the birth of languages ​​in order to raise awareness of their history, of the relationships between related languages ​​and cultures (highlighting for example the common matrix of Neo-Latin languages) and of the variety of textual typologies through which historiographical research can be carried out (graffiti, inscriptions, practical documents and literary texts). A separate space is also reserved for  LIS (Italian sign language). The connections with the structures that host the documents described in the exhibition represent the object of valorisation in order to enhance the cultural heritage spread across the national and international territory.

Actions

Organisation of an exhibition, to be inaugurated on 30 September 2023, on the occasion of the Research Night, developed in 43 panels arranged in the spaces of Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma (library, atrium, corridors) so as to constitute a articulated itinerary accessible in the its entirety, but also only for the individual sections of interest with their own internal autonomy.

Impact

Increase historical awareness of the relationships between related languages ​​and cultures and of the various textual types of communication. At the same time, valorisation of expanded knowledge by encouraging the acquisition of political strategies at a territorial and national level, in correlation with the European and international context, aimed at acquiring, disseminating and using knowledge as an engine of growth and sustainable socio-economic and political development.
