Objectives

The project aims to:

  • promote multilingual literacy by applying the methodology developed by Nati Per Leggere (NPL, and within it the “Mammalingua” project);
  • consolidate the role of the “Presidio NpL” established at the University in the previous edition of the project (AA 2023/2024) not only within the Municipality but in other areas of Rome and outside Rome;
  • promote cooperation dynamics between peers in pre-school age, possibly extended to the 6-10 age group through a playful approach aimed at promoting multilingualism and its inclusive potential;
  • enhance the University's commitment in terms of social impact by spreading the activities for the promotion of multilingualism on and off-site;
  • promote volunteering for inclusive purposes by financing and supporting the training of deserving teachers, students and alumni interested in this activity;
  • allow participant observation of adult/child interactional dynamics and collaborative practices also useful for research purposes in the sociolinguistic and linguistic educational fields.

Actions

Meetings and readings for children from nursery to primary school: a moment dedicated to books and readings of the little ones and their parents.
The series of meetings “More languages to read”, now in its second edition, offers families with children aged two to eleven free moments of shared reading in multiple languages, with an eye on the cultures, societies, and history of Europe and the world.

The activities are aimed at facilitating inclusion by eliminating linguistic and cultural barriers: exposure to different languages, also proposed through educational play materials, stimulates curiosity towards other languages and enhances cultural diversity.

The meetings are led by trained professionals and volunteers to offer participatory reading, designed to support young children's cognitive development.

Impact

The project aims to achieve greater social inclusion by opening the University to the adult public and to children, as well as promoting educational enrichment from a multilingual and multicultural perspective.

Calendar

The meetings are conducted in Italian, Where possible, the tour will also be accompanied by Italian Sign Language (LIS), as well as Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and German. The dates are as follows:
