The University Language Centre is certified as testing centre for the Italian Language Certificate PLIDA.
The PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) diploma certifies proficiency in Italian as a Foreign Language.
The exam is divided into six levels, the ones proposed by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Among them, UNINT offers the following:
Each level requires 4 tests, one for each language skill: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking. The duration of the exam varies depending on the level.
The PLIDA certificate is intended primarily for people whose mother tongue is not Italian. PLIDA can also be accessed by Italian native speakers who need their linguistic proficiency certified for study, work or other reasons.
The exam is divided into six levels, the ones proposed by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR): PLIDA A1; PLIDA A2; PLIDA B1; PLIDA B2; PLIDA C1; and PLIDA C2. For each level, the four basic language skills - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking - are tested separately. The A2 (Residency Permit) and B1 (Citizenship) exams test only candidates’ Speaking skills.
The duration of the exam varies depending on the level, as follows:
| LISTENING | READING | SPEAKING | WRITING | TOTAL |
PLIDA A1 | 20’ | 30’ | 10’ | 40’ | Max 100 minutes |
PLIDA A2 | 25’ | 40’ | 15’ | 40’ | Max 120 minutes |
PLIDA B1 | 30’ | 40’ | 15’ | 60’ | Max 145 minutes |

The written tests are evaluated centrally by Plida. The Speaking tests are taken in front of a local board, authorized by the Testing Centre, composed of an examiner and an interviewer. The exam is however recorded and sent to Plida for the necessary verifications. The maximum score for each test is 30. Candidates immediately obtain the certificate with a minimum score of 18/30 in each of the four tests. If they fail one or more tests, they may try again to pass them within a year from the first attempt, while keeping the scores obtained in the passed tests. See the New PLIDA Certification Syllabus for tests content.
The evaluation criteria are specified on the PLIDA website at the following link.
The results are communicated within 60 working days from the time when PLIDA verifies that it has received all examination materials by the Centre in an integral and correct form. Within the deadlines indicated for each exam session, a faster delivery may also be requested, at an additional cost of 10 euros. The faster delivery allows candidates to have the results within 20 working days. The evaluation of A2 (Residence Permit) and B1 (Citizenship) exams, takes 40 days (without the possibility of requesting urgent correction).
