The “Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Gender Cultures: Culture, Language, Economics, Law and Politics (CIRCgE)” was established at Università degli Studi internazionali di Roma in July 2019.

Objectives and target audience

The aim of the Centre is to encourage the growth and dissemination of gender cultures, understood as cultures of integration, tolerance and the fight against all forms of discrimination.

The Centre aims to be a place of meeting and cultural comparison to support and increase synergies between the academic world and civil society. From this perspective, the main recipients of the Centre's activities are identified as sector players, public and private political decision makers who carry out activities to direct and support gender policies, the national and international scientific community (Universities and research centres) engaged in teaching and research activities relating to gender issues; teachers of schools of all levels; NGO workers, journalists and all those civil society professionals who deal with gender issues in various capacities and in different contexts.

Areas of activity

The Centre intends to promote, develop and coordinate research projects relating to the topic; transversal networks for the exchange of interdisciplinary data and information between those involved in the field of gender cultures; promotes interdisciplinary collaboration initiatives also with other national and international universities, bodies, institutes and research bodies. It promotes dissemination initiatives, study days, seminars, conferences, post-graduate and ongoing training activities. It also promotes discussion and related scientific publications in the relevant research areas. It carries out socio-cultural initiatives by inspiring concrete actions of integration and combating every form of discrimination in social life, also adhering to the objectives of the third mission - social impact of the university, aimed at communicating and disseminating knowledge through a direct relationship with the territory and with all its actors. The Centre may include, according to the procedures set out in the Statute, professors, researchers and lecturers from Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma and/or other universities interested in the thematic areas pertaining to the Centre; professionals who work in Italian, European and international institutions, organisations and bodies and who carry out their professional and/or research activities in the field pertaining to the Centre; renowned experts in the scientific fields of interest to the Centre and public and private institutions operating in the sector.

Events of the Centre

CIRCgE organises scientific and informative events aimed at promoting integration, tolerance and the fight against all forms of discrimination, thus presenting itself as a place of meeting and discussion to encourage synergy between the academic world and civil society on these issues. In particular, since 2020 the Centre has initiated cycles of annual meetings entitled "Women of Value" aimed at the presentation of female portraits, of women who have underlined the value of being a woman with their commitment and have contributed to the improvement of society: from literature to science, from journalism, to politics, to diplomacy, to poetry, to sport.
