Technology-Enhanced Translation of the press: Comparing AI Models in Different Languages

The University of International Studies – UNINT – organizes a A workshop on translation and artificial intelligence entitled “Technology-Enhanced Translation of the Press: Comparing AI Models in Different Languages” will be held on October 14th, starting at 16:00 PM in the master classroom.

The translation industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, requiring professional translators to acquire a basic understanding of the algorithmic systems available on the market. A common practice is to compare models to assess their strengths and weaknesses, so that the most suitable tool can be used appropriately. However, what criteria underpin this qualitative evaluation of a model? Are quantitative parameters sufficient to determine which system to adopt? Furthermore, is the goal to produce a flawless, accurate, or merely functional translation? Beyond the question of model quality, there is the question of the expected translation quality: should it be a "human" (i.e., "expert") quality, or a quality subordinate to the purpose of the translation itself? This event will allow participants to independently evaluate the quality of models, exploring these questions by conducting empirical tests and interacting with two linguistic models while translating a text from one language to another.
