THEUniversità degli Studi Internazionali di Roma – UNINT organizes the second edition of the project “More languages for reading”.
The series of meetings “More languages to read 2.0 – Widespread readings” offers families with children aged two to eleven free moments of shared reading in multiple languages, with an eye on the cultures, societies, and history of Europe and the world.
The meetings are conducted in Italian, where possible also accompanied by Italian sign language (LIS). The next meeting will take place on 24 July 2025 from 16pm to 00pm at Parco Bergamini (Via Raffaele Calzini, 35, 00159) and the following languages will be involved: English, Italian, LIS and Spanish.
The initiative
“More languages for reading” is a Third Mission/social impact project (academic year 2024/2025) funded by UNINT, proposed and coordinated by a group of UNINT teachers (Barbara Altomonte, Lorenzo Blini, Manuela Frontera, Najla Kalach, Laura Mori, Lucilla Pizzoli) in collaboration with the University Language Centre and the programme Born to read.
The meetings are led by trained professionals and volunteers to offer participatory reading, designed to support young children's cognitive development.
The activities are aimed at facilitating inclusion by eliminating linguistic and cultural barriers: exposure to different languages, also proposed through educational play materials, stimulates curiosity towards other languages and enhances cultural diversity.
Each meeting represents an opportunity to create texts and materials together that are useful for building new adventures in multiple languages.
