THEUniversità degli Studi Internazionali di Roma – UNINT organizes the second edition of the project “More languages for reading”.
The series of meetings "Multiple Languages for Reading 2.0 – Widespread Readings" offers families with children free opportunities for shared reading in multiple languages, with a focus on the cultures, societies, and history of Europe and the world.
The meetings are conducted in Italian, where possible also accompanied by Italian sign language (LIS). The next meeting, dedicated to children from 2 to 11 years old, will take place on November 22, 2025, from 16:00 PM to 18:00 PM at the Explora Bookshop – The Children's Museum of Rome in Via Flaminia, 80/86, Rome, according to the following time slots:
The following languages will be involved: English, Italian and Spanish.
The initiative
“More languages for reading” is a Third Mission/social impact project (academic year 2024/2025) funded by UNINT, proposed and coordinated by a group of UNINT teachers (Barbara Altomonte, Lorenzo Blini, Manuela Frontera, Najla Kalach, Laura Mori, Lucilla Pizzoli) in collaboration with the University Language Centre and the programme Born to read.
The meetings are led by trained professionals and volunteers to offer participatory reading, designed to support young children's cognitive development.
The activities are aimed at facilitating inclusion by eliminating linguistic and cultural barriers: exposure to different languages, also proposed through educational play materials, stimulates curiosity towards other languages and enhances cultural diversity.
Each meeting represents an opportunity to create texts and materials together that are useful for building new adventures in multiple languages.
