The Master's degree course in Interpreting and Translation - Advanced Technologies for Interpreting and Translation Curriculum (LM-94) combines the solid training in interpreting and translation, traditionally offered by the Course, with the acquisition of innovative technological skills designed to support language professionals.
The Curriculum includes courses on managing technology‑driven workflows and on the qualitative supervision of machine‑generated output. In this way, interpretera and translatora acquire the skills needed to interact with the machine, enabling them to intervene judiciously whenever automation fails to capture the complexities of human communication.
The main aim of this Curriculum is to enable students to learn how to use of the main technological tools that support interpreting and translation , while developing an informed command of discourse form, meaning, and pragmatics, linguistic creativity, and communicative and cultural nuance — all elements that require human intelligence and cannot be fully delegated to technology.
The Curriculum offers a range of courses aimed at providing specialist training in technologies for translation and interpreting, natural language processing, and the critical use of AI-based tools. Students develop advanced skills in corpus construction and management, linguistic data annotation, the implementation of AI-assisted workflows, localisation, transcreation, and the management of digital and multimedia content.
Professional profile and career opportunities
Graduates of the Course develop a professional profile as interpreters translators or interpreter-translators, as well as language technologists, specialists in language technologies, in the supervision of machine-generated output, in the management of technologically complex multilingual projects, and in mediating between linguistic needs and digital solutions.
Graduates can be employed by institutions, public and private bodies, national and multinational companies in the language-services industry, technology-development companies, research centres, and organisations that employ advanced systems for the analysis, production and management of linguistic content.
Accreditation and Membership
UNINT is a partner of leading international academic associations that promote the adoption of quality standards of excellence in educational and scientific activities.
Due to its recognised quality requirements in language training, the Department of International Humanities and Social Sciences is among the four Italian members of CIUTI (Conférence Internationale Permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes) and its Master's degree course in Interpreting and Translation (LM-94) is part of the EMT network (European Master's in Translation) promoted by the European Commission. Moreover, UNINT is a member of AACSB – Business Education Alliance and has started the accreditation procedure for its Degree courses in the area of economics and business.
As part of the activities related to quality assurance, since 2021 UNINT has been certified in accordance with the regulation UNI EN ISO 9001: 2015On February 8, 2021, the first certificate was issued, confirmed for 2022 and 2023. In 2024, the new certificate was obtained and on January 30, 2026, the certification was confirmed for the year 2026. UNI EN ISO 9001: 2015 for "Teaching, training, research and third mission activities", attesting to the correct definition and execution of the processes implemented within the University.

Courses
The Advanced Technologies for Interpreting and Translation Curriculum offers an integrated programme that complements the Course's traditional modules with a strong focus on technology. The traditional courses include interpreting and translation from and into foreign languages, the study of the language and linguistics for each language offerede, reflection on linguage professions through courses in interpreting or translation theory, revision of texts translated into Italian, as well as textual and pragmatic linguistics. These are complemented by innovative courses dedicated to the development of digital skills and the use of technologies applied to interpreting and translation.
Digital skills and laboratories
The courses dedicated to digital skills and technologies propose the study of the fundamentals of Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing (NLP), the basics of Python for linguistic analysis, as well as the use of technologies for translation (machine and computer-assisted translation), for interpreting, transcreation and respeaking.
Language training and certifications
Graduates will develop solid skills in intercultural communication.

Moreover, thanks to its University Language Centre (CLA), UNINT grants new students enrolled for the 2026/2027 academic year(Bachelor’s or Master's degree courses in any of the degree courses offered by the University) the possibility of obtaining a certification for your level of language proficiency.
Each student, throughout their career, will be able to obtain an international certification of their choice from those offered in agreement with the University, at no additional cost.

The course aims to provide students with lexical, morphological and methodological tools in different specialised languages. The aim is to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to deal with various professional situations as interpreters and translators.

The course aims to improve linguistic proficiency, allowing you to grasp nuances and understand new lexical mechanisms; it promotes contrastive thinking on the peculiarities of phenomena, discourses and contexts.

The course provides students majoring in translation with basic knowledge of the main software tools for managing translation, localization, and post-editing projects. Students majoring in interpretation will learn the basics of using the main software tools for interpreting. It also provides tools for managing terminology and creating glossaries useful to interpreters and translators. The course offers the opportunity to earn the Trados Studio Level 1, MultiTerm, and Post-editing certifications.
(1) Students wishing to obtain the RWS Trados Certification will be able to follow a dedicated Computer Aided and Automatic Translation module in the second semester.

Foundations of programming for Artificial Intelligence and Python for linguistic analysis
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the principles of programming and automation, making the Python language accessible even to those without a technical background. The course adopts a practical approach based on computer-assisted programming, teaching the use of generative artificial intelligence. It includes the acquisition of the basic logic needed to communicate with machines, to transform ideas into working scripts, and a basic understanding of digital text management.

Management of AI strategies and resources for the language sector
The aim of the course is to provide an integrated framework of the managerial and technological skills needed to manage processes within the language industry. The program trains professionals capable of combining strategic business vision with a technical understanding of artificial intelligence tools. The course includes the analysis of new business models resulting from automation, the study of market dynamics, and the design of semi-automated hybrid workflows. It also explores the operation, selection, and management of digital resources and AI technologies best suited to managing complex multilingual projects.

Transcreation for international marketing
The course provides students with a conceptual and applicative framework to analyse predominant communication strategies in the marketing context, with particular attention to the advertising sector. This is to identify the elements of success and failure in the adaptation of some of the most well-known communication campaigns and learn to localise a message from one language to another, making it suitable for the audience and the cultural context in which it will be disseminated.

The laboratory aims to train students in managing translation, localisation and post-editing projects. Through the use of advanced tools, students acquire project management skills. The course allows the student to obtain the Project Manager Trados Studio certification.

Laboratory on Virtual reality and metaverse for interpreters
The aim of the course is to provide theoretical and practical skills on integrating immersive technologies (XR – Extended Reality) into interpreting training and the interpreting profession. The workshop guides students through a digital literacy journey through the use of Virtual and Augmented Reality headsets, exploring the potential of the Metaverse. Activities include the use of specific applications for designing customized learning environments on immersive platforms and simulating conferences in digital spaces. Particular emphasis is placed on the concept of augmented interpretation.
Laboratory on Europlanning
The laboratory delves into the planning and management of European projects, in order to acquire practical skills in the development of project proposals, budgeting and relations with European institutions.

Curriculum Compilation Guide
At the beginning of the academic year, the University organises dedicated sessions to guide students through the completion of their curricula. During these sessions, which involve faculty, the Orientation Office, and the Student Secretariat, studetns receive technical instructions on how to complete their curriculum, as well as general information regarding the training offer and the awarding of credits.
Study Abroad Experiences and Internships
Given the University's strong international outlook, UNINT's Degree courses offer students the opportunity to spend a period abroad for study or internship purposes, thanks to a network of over 100 international agreements with European and non-European universities. The University also has around 700 active agreements for internships and work placements with public and private institutions in Italy and abroad.
Pathway of Excellence
The Pathway of Excellence enables a limited number of particularly deserving students, selected on the basis of their study results through a special call for applications issued annually by the University, to have free access to a training pathway that is supplementary to the one provided for in the curriculum, the contents of which are defined in agreement with the student, who obtains, together with the degree, an additional certification that is recorded in the career certification.
Admission requirements and verification of initial preparation
Admission to the Course is subject to the possession of a Bachelor's degree or a three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable. Furthermore, with regard to language proficiency, the following requirements must be met:
- for graduates in classes L-11 and L-12 at least 36 ECTS in the disciplinary sectors of language or, alternatively, 24 ECTS in the disciplinary sectors of language and 12 in those of literature for each of the chosen languages;
- for graduates in other degree classes no less than 30 ECTS in each of the two languages ​​they intend to study and no less than 12 ECTS in the relevant literatures or cultures;
- graduates who have not obtained the required number of ECTS will be able to show certificates issued by an accredited certification body according to the following levels of competence of the Common European Framework of Reference in each of the two chosen languages: C1 for French, English, Portuguese, Spanish and German and B1/B2 for Arabic, Chinese and Russian. Lacking certification, the student will have to take an interview to assess the adequacy of linguistic skills.
A consolidation course is available for students who wish to strengthen their oral English skills and their written and oral German skills.
For the 2026/2027 academic year, the dates of thegeneral interviewsfor transversal skills, which must be taken by students who have obtained a grade lower than 100/110 in the three-year degree exam or by students coming from three-year courses in degree classes other than L-11 and L-12, will be held remotely at 1:00 pm While the language interviews will be held remotely at 2:30 pm

Tuition fee, scholarships and financial aids
Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma - UNINT provides for a banded tuition fee system that rewards scholastic and university merit as well as scholarships linked to talent and social and civil commitment for high school graduates, students about to graduate and graduates.
