The Master's degree course in Interpreting and Translation - Translation Curriculum (LM-94) trains professionals working in the field of specialised translation in a minimum of one, two or more foreign languages to be chosen among Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and German. The Course is designed to provide the skills required to handle complex to handle text typologies characterised by a high level of interlinguistic and intercultural complexity in the various fields in which the contribution of translators is most frequently required, such as the biomedical, economic, publishing, sociopolitical, legal, IT, technical and multimedia sectors. Moreover, in order to adequately address the text typologies of a wide range of specialised fields, the course enables students to acquire the techniques of documentary and terminology research that interpreters and translators usually use.
The structure of the Course includes laboratories focused on new technologies applied to translation, particularly in the areas of text drafting and revising and of localisation techniques.
Thanks to UNINT's innovative teaching formula, students can attend both in-presence and live-stream lectures through the UNINT Everywhere platform.
Access to the degree course is free but conditioned by the possession of some requirements for initial linguistic skills. In consideration of the characteristics of the courses and the type of professional profile for which students are trained, the Curriculum represents the natural continuation of UNINT Bachelor's degree course in Languages for Interpreting and Translation (L-12) and in general of Bachelor's degree courses focused on linguistic study.
Professional profile and career opportunities
The Translation course trains graduates to pursue a career as specialised translator, reviser, localisator, terminologist e project managerThese professions can be practiced freelance, within translation companies, in the public sector in national and international institutions, organisations and bodies and the private sector in national and multinational enterprises.
At the end of the Course, students will be able to:
- professionally handle specialised and literary translation activities;
- manage linguistic revision and localisation processes of texts and multimedia content, taking into account the cultural and linguistic needs of specific contexts;
- analyse and organise terms specific to a sector or context (e.g., law, medicine, engineering, technology) in glossaries or databases;
- work with the latest terminology management software and computer-assisted translation tools;
- perform organisational skills in the coordination and management of interdisciplinary teams engaged in intercultural communication projects.

Due to its recognised quality requirements in language training, the Department of International Humanities and Social Sciences is among the four Italian members of CIUTI (Conférence Internationale Permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes) and its Master's degree course in Interpreting and Translation (LM-94) is part of the EMT network EMT (European Master's in Translation) promoted by the European Commission. Moreover, UNINT is a member of AACSB – Business Education Alliance and has started the accreditation procedure for its degree courses in the area of economics and business.
Finally, in the field of quality assurance-related activities, since 2021 UNINT has been certified in accordance with UNI EN ISO 9001: 2015 for "Teaching, training, research and third mission activities", attesting to the correct definition and execution of the processes implemented within the University.

The educational pathway of the Master's degree in Interpreting and Translation - Translation Curriculum is structured in such a way as to provide solid knowledge and tools of the following topics over the two years of study:
- techniques and methods for translation from one, two or more foreign languages to be chosen among Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, German and Italian, with a focus on specialised texts in the economic, legal, sociopolitical, literary and non-fiction, IT, multimedia and biomedical fields;
- methodologies for translation from Italian into a foreign language for the languages French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, German and cross-translation French-English-French and Spanish-English-Spanish;
- terminological analysis e documentary research, essential for dealing with complex texts and ensuring terminological consistency in multilingual projects;
- drafting and revising texts with the support of innovative technologies such as tools for computer-assisted translation , post-editing, automated terminology, and localisation;
- transcreation techniques and management of linguistic and “creative” adaptation processes of texts and messages (for example in the field of communication and marketing) in relation to the cultural and linguistic differences of the target audience.
Students may also choose a mixed Course of translation and interpretation.
Digital skills and laboratories
The professional profile of the curriculum is enhanced by the presence of in-depth thematic laboratories focused on the main skills related to the exit profiles of the Degree course: the Laboratory on technologies and tools for translation and the Laboratory on Project Management for translation and website localisation.

Moreover, thanks to its University Language Centre (CLA), UNINT grants new students enrolled for the academic year 2025/2026 (Bachelor’s or Master's degree courses in any of the degree courses offered by the University) the possibility of obtaining a certification for your level of language proficiency.
During their career, students will have the possibility of taking an international certification examination, choosing among the certifications offered in agreement with the University at no extra cost: CAMBRIDGE, TOEFL iBT, DELE, CAPLE, TORFL, DELF/DALF.

The course offers foundations in textual and pragmatic linguistics. It focuses on linguistic-textual and pragmalinguistic analysis, focusing on linguistic context consideration and functionalist textuality, as well as the ability to apply discursive strategies in written and oral communication.

The course focuses on the process of standardisation of the Italian language, examining different linguistic varieties currently in use. It delves into historical and synchronic lexicography, integrating linguistic structures description with the text revision process.

The course, which requires prior knowledge of the French language, focuses on developing linguistic and cultural skills to interact in the French economic context. The aim is to provide students with a linguistic fluency suitable for understanding commercial and business dynamics.

The course, which requires prior knowledge of the Spanish language, aims to develop communication and linguistic skills in Spanish, with a focus on terminology, commercial negotiation and business presentations in Spanish-speaking contexts.
Arabic literature
The course provides an overview of Arabic literature from pre-Islamic to contemporary times, contextualising it in the Arab-Islamic civilisation. Through the translation and analysis of texts, students will explore literary genres, developing critical knowledge of Arabic literary manifestations.
Chinese literature
The course provides a general vision of Chinese literature, contextualising it in the Chinese context. Through the translation and analysis of texts, students will explore different literary genres, developing critical maturity and knowledge of Chinese literary manifestations.
French literature
The course provides an in-depth knowledge of the major expressions of French and Francophone literature, through consideration of issues of cultural and literary criticism. Through the translation and analysis of texts, students will explore different literary genres.
English literature
The course provides an in-depth knowledge of the most significant texts of English literature and culture, encouraging critical reflection on issues related to cultural and literary analysis in English-speaking countries.
Portuguese literature
The course provides an in-depth knowledge of the most relevant texts of Portuguese literature and culture, encouraging critical reflection on issues related to cultural and literary analysis in Portuguese-speaking countries.
Russian literature
The course provides an overview of Russian literature, contextualising the phenomenon in society. It will focus on the study of different literary genres through translation and analysis of texts written in the source language, highlighting style and vocabulary.
Spanish literature

Study Abroad Experiences and Internships
Given the strong international vocation of the University, UNINT's degree courses offer students the opportunity to spend a period abroad for study or internship purposes thanks to the network of over 100 international agreements stipulated with European and non-European universities. Moreover, the University has over 700 active agreements for internships in public and private sector organisations in Italy and abroad.
Pathway of Excellence
The Pathway of Excellence enables a limited number of particularly deserving students, selected on the basis of their study results through a special call for applications issued annually by the University, to have free access to a training pathway that is supplementary to the one provided for in the curriculum, the contents of which are defined in agreement with the student, who obtains, together with the degree, an additional certification that is recorded in the career certification.
Admission requirements and assessment of starting skills
Access to the course is subject to possession of a Bachelor's degree or three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable. Furthermore, the following conditions must be met:
- for graduates in classes L-11 and L-12 at least 36 ECTS in the disciplinary sectors of language or, alternatively, 24 ECTS in the disciplinary sectors of language and 12 in those of literature for each of the chosen languages;
- for graduates in other degree classes no less than 30 ECTS in each of the two languages they intend to study and no less than 12 CFU in the relevant literatures or cultures;
- graduates who have not obtained the required number of ECTS will be able to show certificates issued by an accredited certification body according to the following levels of competence of the Common European Framework of Reference in each of the two chosen languages: C1 for French, English, Portuguese, Spanish and German and B1/B2 for Arabic, Chinese and Russian. Lacking certification, the student will have to take an interview to assess the adequacy of linguistic skills.
Students who wish to strengthen their oral skills in English can also attend a consolidation course.
For the academic year 2025/2026 the general interviews for transversal skills, which must be taken by students who have obtained a Bachelor's degree grade lower than 100/110 or by students coming from Bachelor's degree classes other than L11 and L12, will be held at 13:00 pm and the language interviews will be held at 14:30 pm on the following dates remotely:

Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma - UNINT provides for a banded tuition fee system that rewards scholastic and university merit as well as scholarships linked to talent and social and civil commitment for high school graduates, students about to graduate and graduates.

By participating in the call for applications, it is possible to access scholarships and receive financial support to cover university costs.

International mobility grants are also provided to support students during periods of study or internship abroad, thus facilitating international educational experiences.
