The Master's degree course in Interpreting and Translation - Interpreting Curriculum (LM-94) trains professionals with advanced skills in the various techniques and modes of interpreting (bilateral, consecutive and simultaneous) from and into two foreign languages to choose between Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and German (with the exception of consecutive and simultaneous Chinese and Arabic, which are only available into Italian).
Together with specialised skills in different interpreting techniques, the Curriculum is designed to provide the skills required to handle complex speeches in the various fields in which the contribution of interpreters and translators is most frequently required, such as the biomedical, economic, sociopolitical, legal, IT, technical and multimedia sectors. To this end, in order to adequately address the text typologies of a wide range of specialised fields, the course enables students to acquire the techniques of documentary and terminology research that interpreters and translators usually use. The Curriculum also provides the possibility of specialising in interpretation from and into Italian sign language.
The curriculum is characterised by a strong focus on training in new technologies applied to the language professions and includes numerous laboratory activities, in-depth study of intralingual and interlingual respeaking techniques and simulations of interpreting activities in immersive environments with the support of state-of-the-art headsets.
Starting from the academic year 2024/2025, the Course allows students meeting certain requirements to access a new pathway of excellence in ‘Interpreter for the European institutions’ in cooperation with the European Commission’s DG-SCIC.
Thanks to UNINT's innovative teaching formula, students can attend both in-presence and live-stream lectures through the UNINT Everywhere platform.
Access to the degree course is free but conditioned by the possession of some requirements for initial linguistic skills. In consideration of the characteristics of the courses and the type of professional profile for which students are trained, the Curriculum represents the natural continuation of UNINT Bachelor's degree course in Languages for Interpreting and Translation (L-12) and in general of Bachelor's degree courses focused on linguistic study.
Professional profile and career opportunities
The Interpreting Curriculum trains graduates to pursue a career as conference, community, liaison and court interpreter. These professions can be practiced freelance, within interpreting and translation companies, in the public sector in national and international institutions, organisations and bodies and the private sector in national and multinational enterprises.
At the end of the Course, students will be able to:
- master advanced techniques of consecutive, simultaneous and bilateral interpretation both from the chosen foreign languages into Italian and vice versa, ensuring a fluent, accurate and immediate oral translation;
- manage highly specialised types of text in the main fields in which the contribution of interpreters and translators is required, such as politics, economics, law, health and technology;
- play a mediating role to facilitate effective communication in international contexts, thanks to a solid understanding of cultural and contextual nuances;
- competently use the most modern technologies applied to interpretation and translation, including artificial intelligence systems;
- practise, with advanced skills, active listening, rapid analysis and memorisation of information, essential to elaborate and reproduce complex speeches with precision;
- perform, with organisational skills, coordination and management functions of interdisciplinary teams engaged in intercultural communication projects.

Due to its recognised quality requirements in language training, the Department of International Humanities and Social Sciences is among the four Italian members of CIUTI (Conférence Internationale Permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes), Master's degree course in Interpreting and Translation (LM-94) is part of the EMT network EMT network (European Master's in Translation) promoted by the European Commission and the training in interpreting for European languages benefits from the pedagogical assistance of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Conference Interpreting Services (DG-SCIC). Moreover, UNINT is a member of AACSB – Business Education Alliance and has started the accreditation procedure for its Degree courses in the area of economics and business.
As part of the activities related to quality assurance, since 2021 UNINT has been certified in accordance with the regulation UNI EN ISO 9001: 2015On February 8, 2021, the first certificate was issued, confirmed for 2022 and 2023. In 2024, the new certificate was obtained and on January 30, 2026, the certification was confirmed for the year 2026. UNI EN ISO 9001: 2015 for "Teaching, training, research and third mission activities", attesting to the correct definition and execution of the processes implemented within the University.

The educational pathway of the Master's degree in Interpreting and Translation - Interpreting Curriculum is structured in such a way as to provide solid knowledge and tools of the following topics over the two years of study:
- techniques and methods of consecutive, simultaneous and dialogic interpreting of two or three foreign languages to be chosen among Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, German and Italian;
- interpreting methodologies from Italian into the foreign language, for the languages French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, German and cross-interpretation for French-English-French, Spanish-English-Spanish and Russian-English-Russian;
- advanced methods of terminological analysis e documentary research in the main specialised domains relevant to the chosen languages;
- the functioning and use of main technologies supporting the interpretation activity;
- methodologies of interpretation from and into Italian sign language.
Digital skills and laboratories
The professional profile of the curriculum is enhanced by the presence of in-depth thematic laboratories focused on the main skills related to the exit profiles of the Degree course: the Laboratory on technologies and tools for interpretation, the Laboratory on intralingual respeaking, the Laboratory on virtual reality and metaverse for interpreters and the Laboratory on Project Management for translation and website localisation.
Language training and certifications
Graduates will develop solid skills in intercultural communication.

Moreover, thanks to its University Language Centre (CLA), UNINT grants new students enrolled for the 2026/2027 academic year(Bachelor’s or Master's degree courses in any of the degree courses offered by the University) the possibility of obtaining a free certification for their level of linguistic competence.
Each student, throughout their career, will be able to obtain an international certification of their choice from those offered in agreement with the University, at no additional cost.

It also provides tools for managing terminology and creating glossaries useful to interpreters and translators. Laboratory on Project Management for translation and website localisation
The laboratory aims to train students in managing translation, localisation and post-editing projects. Through the use of advanced tools, students acquire project management skills. The course allows the student to obtain the Project Manager Trados Studio certification.

Curriculum Compilation Guide
At the beginning of the academic year, the University organises dedicated sessions to guide students through the completion of their curricula. During these sessions, which involve faculty, the Orientation Office, and the Student Secretariat, studetns receive technical instructions on how to complete their curriculum, as well as general information regarding the training offer and the awarding of credits.
Study Abroad Experiences and Internships
Given the University's strong international outlook, UNINT's Degree courses offer students the opportunity to spend a period abroad for study or internship purposes, thanks to a network of over 100 international agreements with European and non-European universities. The University also has around 700 active agreements for internships and work placements with public and private institutions in Italy and abroad.
Pathway of Excellence
The Pathway of Excellence enables a limited number of particularly deserving students, selected on the basis of their study results through a special call for applications issued annually by the University, to have free access to a training pathway that is supplementary to the one provided for in the curriculum, the contents of which are defined in agreement with the student, who obtains, together with the degree, an additional certificate that is recorded in the academic career certification.
Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, the Degree course in Interpreting and Translation offers two pathways of excellece , including an innovative Course in “Interpreter for European Institutions”, conceived in collaboration with the European Commission’s DG-SCIC.
Admission requirements and verification of initial preparation
Admission to the Course is subject to the possession of a Bachelor's degree or a three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable. Furthermore, with regard to language proficiency, the following requirements must be met:
- for graduates in classes L-11 and L-12 at least 36 ECTS in the disciplinary sectors of language or, alternatively, 24 ECTS in the disciplinary sectors of language and 12 in those of literature for each of the chosen languages;
- for graduates in other degree classes no less than 30 ECTS in each of the two languages they intend to study and no less than 12 ECTS in the relevant literatures or cultures;
- graduates who have not obtained the required number of ECTS will be able to show certificates issued by an accredited certification body according to the following levels of competence of the Common European Framework of Reference in each of the two chosen languages: C1 for French, English, Portuguese, Spanish and German and B1/B2 for Arabic, Chinese and Russian. Lacking certification, the student will have to take an interview to assess the adequacy of linguistic skills.
A consolidation course is available for students who wish to strengthen their oral English skills and their written and oral German skills.
For the 2026/2027 academic year, the dates of thegeneral interviewsfor transversal skills, which must be taken by students who have obtained a grade lower than 100/110 in the three-year degree exam or by students coming from three-year courses in degree classes other than L-11 and L-12, will be held remotely at 1:00 pm While the language interviews will be held remotely at 2:30 pm

Tuition fee, scholarships and financial aids
Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma - UNINT provides for a banded tuition fee system that rewards scholastic and university merit as well as scholarships linked to talent and social and civil commitment for high school graduates, students about to graduate and graduates.

Furthermore, students who intend to enrol can, as would be the case by enrolling at a State University, access the Right to Study Call for Applications, through which DiSCo (regional body for the right to education and knowledge) and Regione Lazio provide benefits and services to university students to guarantee the right to study in accordance with Article 34 of the Italian Constitution, which enshrines the principle of equal educational opportunities.
By participating in the call for applications, it is possible to access scholarships and receive financial support to cover university costs.
The services offered also include accommodation in student residences, and subsidised access to the canteen with meals at reduced costs. International mobility grants are also provided to support students during periods of study or internship abroad, thus facilitating international educational experiences.
