The Master's degree course in Investigation, Crime and International Security - Cybersecurity Curriculum (LM-52) has been designed to address the growing need for highly qualified professionals in the field of security, with a particular focus on cybersecurity and its governance. The aim is to train professionals capable of operating in the prevention and fight against cyber attacks and breaches and, more generally, to ensure the correct management and protection of sensitive data and information within institutions, public administrations and private companies.
For some years now, the demand for qualified cybersecurity professionals has been growing significantly, driven by the increase in threats arising from the use of digital technologies, the current geopolitical context and the lack of adequate technical skills (known as “cyberskills”). According to a survey conducted by the European Union's Eurobarometer, 71% of companies consider cybersecurity a crucial priority, yet more than half of them struggle to find suitable candidates due to the lack of specialised professional profiles. Worldwide, although 5.5 million cybersecurity specialists are employed, it is estimated that an additional 3.9 million are needed with a specific need in Italy of around 100,000 professionals.
In this perspective, the curriculum is structured in such a way as to combine multidisciplinary skills related to the international security sector and investigation techniques with a specific in-depth study of online crime, cyber risk assessment and management, cyber intelligence and the strategic management of security and cybersecurity. The Curriculum also provides for laboratories and in-depth initiatives on security management and virtual reality, as well as the possibility of participating in extra-curricular training activities such as the School of Political Sciences organised by the University. In addition, students will acquire a solid language training thanks to the presence of courses taught in English and the mandatory study of a second language to be chosen among Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and German.
Given the characteristics of the Degree course, the lectures are delivered by academics and specialists from the world of defence, justice and security.
Thanks to UNINT's innovative teaching formula, students can attend both in-presence and live-stream lectures through the UNINT Everywhere platform.
Access to the degree course is free, with a non-selective interview to verify the initial requirements. n consideration of the characteristics of the courses and the type of professional profile for which students are trained, the Course is aimed primarily at students who have obtained a Bachelor's degree in the fields of political science, languages, international relations and economics.
Professional profile and career opportunities
The Curriculum trains graduates capable of working as security e cybersecurity specialists, performing functions related to the design and implementation of effective cyber security strategies consistent with the specific characteristics of the organisation in question. They may also operate as cyberlegal, policy & compliance officers, overseeing and ensuring the compliance of internal cybersecurity policies with national and international regulations and standards. Such profiles may also find employment in national and international institutions and organisations, private companies and service companies (for example in the banking and financial sector), research centres, consultancy firms and multinational companies.
Thanks to the skills acquired during their studies, at the end of the Course students will be able to:
- analyse and assess phenomena of organised crime and cybercrime at national and international level;
- define and implement cybersecurity strategies, procedures and plans, ensuring that they are in line with the organisation's objectives and consistent with relevant regulations and standards;
- use geopolitical analysis techniques and intelligence methods to prevent conflicts and threats;
- recognise cyber risks and monitor the techniques and tools used in attacks to anticipate and counter threats;
- develop and implement response plans to manage cyber attacks, reduce damage to sensitive data and information, also supporting investigative and forensic activities in cooperation with competent bodies;
- apply AI technologies for information processing and security management.
